NINE TO COMPETE FOR TITLE OF MISS NORTHWESTERN – LADY OF BRACELET SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Northwestern State University issued the following news release:
The 48th annual Miss Northwestern ιΆ… Lady of the Bracelet Scholarship Program will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the A.A. Fredericks Auditorium.
Nine NSU students are scheduled to compete in the event, which is a preliminary for the Miss Louisiana Pageant. The winner will receive more than $5,000 in scholarships and prizes.
Admission is $5 and free for NSU and Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts students.
The mistress of ceremonies will be Jamie Wilson, Miss Louisiana 2006. Entertainment will be provided by the NSU Demon Dazzlers, the NSU Tap Repertoire and the University Jazz Orchestra.
Contestants include Natasha Bennett and Kayla Pitcher of Natchitoches, Laura Burns of Alexandria, Tracena Collongues of Slidell, Brittney Fink of Jena, Corina Harwood of Libertyville, Ill., Tobin Johnson of Denham Springs, Sara Mayeux of Lake Charles and Mandi Ridgell of Sorrento.
Bennett is a senior biology major and the daughter of James and Rita Bennett. She is involved in NSU’s Student Government Association serving as Speaker of the Senate and was a member of the 2006 Homecoming Honor Court. Bennett is a Dean’s List student. Her platform issue is “Enriching Lives Through Martial Arts.”
Burns is a sophomore psychology and addiction students major. She is the tiffany and co daughter of Robert and Sharon Burns. A President List student, Burns has been a member of NSU choral groups. Her platform issue is “Impoverished Third World Countries.”
Collongues is the daughter of Michael and Wavelynn Collongues. She is a sophomore theatre major. Collongues is a Dean’s List student and is involved with the NSU Theatre. Her platform issue is “Let The Children Shine.”
Fink is the daughter of Kurt and Laura Fink. She is a sophomore radiologic technology major. Fink is a Dean’s List student. She is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, serving as Panhellenic delegate. Fink’s platform issue is “Teambuilding Motivation for Teens.”
Harwood is a senior psychology major. She is the daughter of Graham and Susan Harwood. A President’s List student, Harwood is captain of the Demon Dazzler Danceline. She is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Her platform issue is “Encouraging People to Volunteer at Special Olympics Events.”
Johnson is the daughter of John and Linda Johnson. She is a sophomore biology major. Johnson is a President’s List student and has been a Freshman Connector. Her platform issue is “Asthma Awareness.”
A freshman liberal arts major in the Louisiana Scholars’ College, Mayeux is the daughter of Jimmy and Laurie Mayeux. She is a member of the University Chorus. Her platform issue is “Awareness of HPV.”
Pitcher is the daughter of Charles and Emma Pitcher. She is a sophomore business administration major. Pitcher is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She is a President’s List student and has been active in the Student Activities Board. Her platform issue is “Kids Hope USA: Hope at Its Best.”
Ridgell is a senior theatre major and is the daughter of Kennie and Lori Ridgell. She has been active in NSU Theatre productions and is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Ridgell is a Dean’s List student. Her platform issue is “Push America.”Contact: David West, 318/357-6466, west@nsula.edu.
